On The Matter of Dragons

A great deal have been said and written about Dragons and most of it is false or at best a distortion of the facts.
First of all, they are not enormous beast. A few will attain the size of a large horse, but most are average horse-size or smaller. However, they are not in the same weight scale as horses because their bone structure is more like birds. Genetically, they are what one would get if one combined the genes of an Ornithosuchus, an Iguanodon and a Draco Volan (the latter can still be found on Earth, in a tiny version). Then stuck a head on the body looking like something between horse-head and a Pachycephalosaurus with a large brain, because Dragons of today are very intelligent, telepathic and can speak (they are only Telepathic with those they mind-link with). They are also very long living and slow breeders and have arms and fingers independent of their wings, although only 3 fingers and a thumb.
The slow breeding is one of the reasons for their small numbers and there are not many dragons around anymore. Although, Dhitter says that their specie were never numerous (Dhitter is a golden Dragon, female and mind-linked with Master Lhorne.
Whether a Human or Dragon raise a baby Dragon, only one at a time; a Dragon (female) produces only one egg and she is in mind touch with the little one. She or the father may raise the baby or give it to a human, whose mind matches and is in rapport with the baby Dragon. The person, with such rapport, wills mind-link with the Dragon before and after he/she is born, a link that will last until one of them dies.
Do not think the parents are callous, the baby Dragon is the one that picks out who it want to live with; already in the egg, they are independent little cusses. A Baby Dragons always pick the right humans, I have never heard of a baby Dragon that made a mistake in their choice of mind-link.
Like Humans they are omnivores and do not eat fair maidens or whole cows, they much prefer rabbit stew and fried chicken. They love Dandelion salad and some Dandelion Wine (some have the same bad habits humans suffer from). Geharre always drinks too much Dandelion Wine, and then he leans back, half sitting on his tail, because he cannot keep his balance. He sits with a bottle of wine in one hand and a glass in the other. He may get quite tipsy (alright totally sotted). But, Geharre consider himself a very civilized and educated Dragon and to drink fine wine out of a bottle is something simply not done; after a little while his fire-pilot goes on the blink and little puff of smoke comes out his nostrils. Then he gets hiccups, and between the hiccups and the smoke puffs, he makes bad puns and quote poetry. Luckily, it is only Dandelion wine that affects him that way, other forms of alcohol he handles well. I am inclined to think he has an allergy to Dandelions.
When Dragons are not flying, they walk nearly upright; their forepaws are like hands and are used as such. Like human they pick up their food with their hands and transfer to their mouth or they may also use the appropriate tools for meals. Most are very adapt in using one or two claws as a fork. The favored breakfast of Dragons is Oat-Cakes and Pancakes with Brambleberry syrup. But, do not think they have turned meek or mild like a pussy-cat, they still have sharp claws. If you have ever watch a Dragon catch, skin and clean a Rabbit with one claw, before she/he barbecues it. You will speak politely to any strange Dragon, and say Sir or Ma'm; but you will also know that you were watching was no animal, it was too much like a human cook. That much hits a person when they gets to know a Dragons, they are so human in their thinking and behavior, or is it that we are so Dragon in ours -that is what Geharre would insist on. But, it is still a mystery why, the strong links of minds and bonds of love that occur between some Dragons and Humans.
Of course, the people on Earth think that Dragons are not real, but they also think they are the only humans around. The only difference between them and us is that we are aware of them and they are not aware of us. Also, the definition of what is human is not confined to what looks human. It is how a person thinks and acts that makes a person human. There are many strange looking people, in the Universe, who by Earth's human definition, would definitely qualify as being human.
Also, Dragons, in spite of their scales, are not cold-blooded, but feel warm to the touch and their blood is red and some of them like Dhitter and Geharre are my best friends.
