A Traveler’s Tale
1. I was Orion bound
With a stop-over at
Way Station Twelve.
When at Traveler’s Hall,
A Meeting was held
As tradition spelled;
Any traveler, with a
Tale to tell, owns
Traveler’s Hall, and
The attention of all.
2. The Traveler told
A tale of old, of Time
And Deeds forgotten.
Of human stock was she
And of indeterminate age.
She loomed and filled
The Hall, even when
Barely five feet tall.
Her voice tolled as
A whisper from a
Thousand trees. The
Sound went around and
Around in my head
Abound; I hear her still.
3. The Milky Way, she said,
Was a Galaxy that
Held a Yellow Star
Around which
Nine planets dwelled,
And from where
Human-kind spread,
But not originate.
A Yellow Star like any
Other, but for a twist
Of fate Dimension Three
Was inter-played.
And thus, the cause for
Human-Kind was made.
4. From other Dimensions
They came to settle
The second Earth.
All, but a few have
Forgotten; the Aesirs,
The Vanirs, the Ymers,
The Dwarfs, the Troll,
And the Elves.
Old friends and foes are
Barely remembered myths.
5. The First Dimension
Vanaheim held,
And there are no
Other planets where
The Vanirs dwelled.
Silver of hair
And skin. Round
And shimmering they
Can appear like their
Fog-shrouded planet.
As the ‘The Shining Ones’
In some places they
Be known, and to
Human-kind as Foos.
6. In the Second Dimension
Twelve planets turned
While a Red Star burned.
Twelve planets with life
All teeming. The fairest
Was Midgard, a sister
To Earth. The Portals
Between Midgard,
Vanaheim and Earth were
Well traveled paths.
When on Earth only
Ape-kin trod; and Earth
The only garden the
Third Dimension rowth.
7. The battles between
The Ymer, the Trolls and
The Planets Twelve,
Midgard and Vanaheim went
On for untold Time.
But, this was not
The cause of Ragnarok;
From another dread
They all fled. Thus,
The tales of Norse myths
Are few, and mixed with
Facts and fiction.
Because fanatic fane
Destroyed the diction:
8. Hidden most foul was
The fact that the Aesirs
Was a Matriarch. One
Other Thing has to be
Understood that Time
Between Midgard and Earth
Does not run smooth.
When on day on Midgard
Has run, ten years on
Earth will be gone.
9. The ‘Gods’ battled on,
And Surtur’s Fire
Ran wild; sore did
Not heal, and
Monsters be born.
From the outer and
Inner planets, through
Midgard to Earth
They fled and settled
Where Earth was most
As home lit. Thus,
Men from the worlds of
Twelve became the
Seeds of Human-kind.
10. From here, the Traveler
Said, the tale
Will be what is known
To me, since from
Aesirs blood I be.
In vain they battled
The Scourge, who’s blood
Did not flow red,
And little else is known
About that ancient dread.
From Midgard the word
Did come:
In days of three
The Final Battle will be.
-
11. What beheld on Earth
Odin kvaeld.
His Raven two were
Micro-robots
Of the finest geld,
And the android
Heimdahl all knowledge
Of the Aesirs held.
With Freja, Odin spat
Over the way his
Seeds he spread.
Odin, with Heimdahl’s
Help, the foundation
To our race he laid.
12. Scolded Odin, Freja did,
Why he still the
Aesirs' seed among
The Ape-kin spread.
They, Odin replied,
Are what we once were,
And their children
Our descendants will be.
Once, men from Midgard
To the outer and
Inner planets spread,
And as different races
They seemed, before
To Earth they fled.
13. Eight planets have
Fallen, and Asgard
Is no more.
In days of three
The enemy will be
At Midgard’s door.
With Haid, I have
The future seen.
Ragnarok is near!
And, Time has run out
For the Aesirs.
14. Loki is bound, and
'Down Under’ he will stay.
The Thunderbirds, the Rising Sun,
Will fight till done.
The Serpent’s Tooth will
Rearguard be, but no help
From Yahweh-to busy he be,
Playing God to his clones.
Odin, do not judge him,
Freja soothed; valiantly
He and his kin fought,
And remember; the only
One left is he.
15. I will not, Odin
Replied, a God
To my descendants be.
Then Ida, last of
The Healers and a
Bio-chemist to boot,
Did what Odin bid;
Memory in the Double
Helix hid, to freed
By Words of
High technology. Some
Future he or she
Will know what
The Aesirs really be.
16. On Earth for thirty years
They prepared for the
Battle to be. If Midgard
Is destroyed, Odin bode:
Dimensions will erode,
Portals explode, and
The Earth with water be
Covered when the Isbridge
Implode. Not one Noah,
As the myths do tell, but
Nine, one for each of
The kin from the worlds
Where the Red Star
Shined, for Human-kind.
17. As we know, Human-kind
Survived.
About Midgard nobody knows.
But grieve I do for the
Elves, Gnomes, and for
My trees that talked
And for all the
Myriad life-forms
That Midgard wrought.
18. On Earth, in the Past,
The question was
Asked: How long since the Flood?
When Eighteen thousand,
Two hundred and fifty
Years on Earth went
By; only four years
On Midgard have passed.
When one hundred and
Forty-six thousand
Years on Earth have gone.
Thirty years on
Midgard has flown.
19. Earth may have forgotten,
But, if any survivors
Under the Red Star dwells;
Then, Ragnarok still
In their mind is held.
20. On Earth, in nineteen
Forty-five released
Again was Surtur’s Fire.
The Name for Surtur’s Fire
On Earth Nuclear Fission be.
Yes, the ancient weapon
Long Banned in this Galaxy.
The long range sensors
On Midgard blazed,
When Earth’s background
Radiation raged.
For the next sixty-seven Years
A flap of UFOs all over
Earth appeared.
21. This record is the last
To be known of Earth.
Here my tale from a
Story to a mystery birth.
These are the questions
I pose: What happened
To Earth in the
Twenty-First Century?
Why is Human-Kind spread,
As Gypsies, all over this
Universe? With not one
World to call their own;
And where lie
Earth and the Milky Way?
22. The applause thundered.
Bravo, bravo, all said;
This was indeed a tale
Worthy of Travelers’ Hall.
Except the listener of
Human-stock, overwhelmed
They were and still they be.
For they knew this was
More than a Tale;
This Human History be!
23. The Traveler bowed. And
As she passed me by, I
Looked into her eyes and
Found a Wicca of Old.
One who’s mind has
Travelled Time. One who’s
Past and Future lives
Are of memory supplied.
24. I bowed with lotus hands.
Acknowledged me as kin
Did She. Me, a dabbler
Poor, but with enough blood
Of old to know; that both
Blessed and cursed be she.
